Jan Brierton
Bio
Jan Brierton is a Dublin born poet and performer known for her rhythmic and heart felt poems. She works in fashion as a creative director and found her poetry voice in January 2021 when she wrote her first poem ‘What Day Is It? Who gives a f*ck’
Jan’s one-woman live shows combine pithy verses and simple storytelling from her two published collections; What Day is it? and Everybody is a Poem. The latter reaching number 1 in the paperback non-fiction Irish Book charts, with What Day Is It reaching number 7 in the same week.
Jan has performed in theatres, at festivals, on radio stations all over Ireland and the UK and has appeared on TV on the Tommy Tiernan show, The 6 O Clock Show, Ireland AM and RTE’s Nationwide.
Often praised for her warmth and relatable wit, Jan shares her poetry on social media with her following of over 18k. @jbgoodtome Her poems have over 300k views and her work has been shared by Jo Wiley, Emma Barnett, Nuala Mc Govern (BBC Woman’s Hour)
When she’s not performing live and writing her poems on the 27 bus, Jan loves a bit of collaboration. She has worked with numerous brands, Guinness Storehouse, Irish Ferries, Mindfield Electric Picnic, Boland’s Mills and the Liberties Festival, creating and curating poems and poetry events that are accessible and engaging.
Opening for Dr John Cooper Clarke in the London Palladium and the Manchester Co Op Arena for World Poetry Day ’25 , she is a regular addition to Dr John Cooper Clarke’s touring line up in Ireland and the UK. She also tours and performs with Bafta Award winning writer and poet Henry Normal having sold out runs at Nottingham and Cork respectively on their most recent double bill.
Outside of writing and performing her poems, Jan very much enjoys watching telly, wearing red lipstick, raving in her kitchen and drinking lots of tea.
